Hello S'poreans,
Many local people tend to criticize our local talent in the field of music. For this topic, i am on the fence. Its true that the majority of kids here prefer mainstream and popular hits to underground tunes. We argue that local music lack
'successful' elements - such as quality, appeal or is just plain crap and CMI. In my opinion, I feel that it is impossible to define what music is, as music differs with each individual. If something is nice and pleasant to hear, then it is music to the ears.
In fact i listen to many genres of various origins, even local ones. However I am not going to persuade anyone to suit with my liking as i believe that everyone should find their personal taste. I would prefer to introduce a brand to someone and see if they like it rather than forcing them to conform.
Recently i discovered a genre called "S'pore comedy" by local bands. These songs are catered to S'poreans as much Singlish is used. The lyrics are humourous too!
The current song on my profile is a good example. Take a few mins off and listen to the song on my profile. Sit back and sip your 'kopi'. (The song is in Malay though.)
Cheers.
